our story...

The Atha farm had a very humble beginning. In the 1960's it was a working farm with cows, hogs, & horses. Over the years after all of the animals had gone, it was simply a field with an old barn...but it had potential! In 1995, we began to clear the land & plant a garden. The whole family got involved picking & canning beans, plowing potatoes, keeping honey bees & eventually planting & growing a grape arbor for homemade wine. Wild flowers & dahlias were also planted to add another touch of beauty. 

In the fall of 2009, our daughter wanted to have her rehearsal dinner here because the farm represented our family & meant so much to her. Friends & family gathered from all over the country & were amazed at how breath-taking our West Virginia family farm was. It wasn't long before we started getting calls from friends about renting our farm for weddings. Before long we started Athena Estate & Vineyard to create the perfect backdrop for a gorgeous wedding. 

We are very blessed to have such a beautiful place here & we want to share it with you. Let us make your special day "Almost Heaven", here at Athena Estate & Vineyard.
